Tennessee Valley Fair Announces More than $11 Million in Economic Impact in Lead-Up to 100 Year

KNOXVILLE, TENN. (March 20, 2019) – The Tennessee Valley Fair, Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 organization and will be celebrating 100 years this coming September.

The Tennessee Valley Fair continues to grow each year and has been recognized in the tourism industry as a “Top 25 Event in the Southeastern United States” for the past fourteen years.Despite experiencing rain from Hurricane Florence, over 133,000 attendees visited the Tennessee Valley Fair this past year.

In 2018, the Tennessee Valley Fair hired FMR Associates, Inc. to produce an Economic Impact Study and Report.FRM Associates, Inc. reported the Tennessee Valley Fair impacted the local economy by $11,468,154.00. Outside of the 10-day event, vendors and exhibitors arrive 3 weeks in advance to the early September fair. Additionally, 6 full-time employees work year-round, engaging in the community and planning for the event.

In addition to contributing to the local economy, the Tennessee Valley Fair continues to be a major cultural contributor to the local area. A venue allowing locals to display and showcase their talents, the Tennessee Valley Fair’s mission is to preserve East Tennessee heritage through agricultural education, the arts, and community giving. In 2018, over $22,000 was contributed to organizations such as East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, The Love Kitchen, The Salvation Army, and many more. Additionally, over $50,000 were awarded to local youth (under 18 years old) for their outstanding work through competitions such as livestock shows, student art, student photography, and many more. Admission tickets are donated each year to the following organizations:

  • Knox County Public Library – Summer Library Club
  • Surrounding Counties Public Libraries
  • Arts & Culture Alliance – Penny4Arts
  • Beardsley Farms
  • Austin East High School
  • Sunnyview Elementary School
  • Boy Scouts
  • Girl Scouts
  • 4-H
  • FFA
  • MEDIC Blood Center

The 100th Tennessee Valley Fair will be held September 6th – 15th, 2019 at historic Chilhowee Park.
