Rules and Regulations
1. General rules of the Tennessee Valley Fair will apply unless stated differently hereunder.
2. As required by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, an official veterinary health certificate must accompany each animal, and must have been acquired within 30 days from date of show for out-of-state animals and within 90 days from date of show for in-state animals. The Certificate Must Positively Identify Each Goat And Certify It To Be Free Of Clinical Signs Of Infectious Or Communicable Disease, Including Contagious Abscesses, Diseases Involving The Skin And External Parasites.
3. In addition to the health requirements by the State of Tennessee, the following health requirements will apply to the Dairy Goat Show. All animals are subject to being inspected after arrival at the show facilities and any with clinical signs of contagious disease will be sent home immediately. Certificate(s) of Veterinary Inspection are to accompany the animal(s) to the respective shows. Veterinarians will examine for signs of infectious diseases, i.e. sore mouth, pinkeye, ringworm, abscesses, suspected caseous lymphandenitis. With reference to caseous lymphadenitis: enlargements or abscesses of the Lymph Nodes, whether draining or not, will not be admitted. The veterinarian has the final decision on whether animals satisfy all health requirements. By application for admission, each exhibitor agrees to show his/her animals subject to these rules. Presenting Obviously Unhealthy animals, as defined above, may result in the entire herd’s disqualification from the show, subject to the ruling of the Show Committee.
4. All entries must be completed online at
www.tnvalleyfair.org and payment must be submitted before your entries are considered registered. Each exhibitor will need an exhibitor pass priced at $15.00, $12.00 per head entry fee, as well as a $3.00 pen fee. Entries may be submitted online August 1 with a deadline of September 4. Anyone entering the fairgrounds must have either an exhibitor’s ticket or general admission ticket. Please note: 3 goats will be allowed per pen.
5. All late entries, those made after September 4, will be required to pay a late entry fee of $20.00 per goat entered. No additions or changes will be allowed after 8 a.m., Saturday, September 19. Deletions only.
6. This show is sanctioned by American Dairy Goat Association for the following breeds: Alpine, Lamancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, AOP (Oberhasli/Guernsey), Saanen, Sable, Toggenburg and Recorded Grade. Only American Dairy Goat Association, American Goat Society and Canadian Goat Society registered, recorded or applied for animals may be shown in official ADGA shows. All rules governing the showing of dairy goats, as approved by American Dairy Goat Association, will be followed and enforced. Order of Show Ring #1 is: Saanen, Sable, Toggenburg, Recorded Grade. Order of Show Ring #2 is: Alpine, Lamancha, AOP, Nubian, Nigerian Dwarf. The Junior and Combined Shows are separately sanctioned. Show order is subject to change.
7. Animals must be in place by 7:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19. There will be no pre-show milkout. There will be no exceptions to the 7:00 a.m. deadline except in cases of sincere emergency and by previous arrangement with the show committee. If an exhibitor’s lateness requires the veterinarian to make extra trips to the fairgrounds to check in animals, the exhibitor is responsible for paying the veterinarian’s fee and mileage.
8. Original registration certificate is required for all animals six months of age or older. The original registration certificate or duplicate application stamped by the ADGA office is required for all animals under six months of age. These must be handed to the Show Secretary who shall read it and compare its information to that on its entry form and verify the information on both. No copies of the registered or stamped application will be accepted. Faxed copies from the ADGA will be accepted.
9. Group lots include Produce of Dam, Dam & Daughter, Jr. Best Three Females and Dairy Herd. All animals shown in group lots must have been shown in their individual lots of same breed. Additionally, animals may be shown in only one group per class. Dam must be named in the Produce. Age of animals in the shows will be computed from September 19, 2026.
10. Animals must be legibly tattooed prior to show date. Animals which have been re-tattooed must have these changes indicated on the ADGA registration papers. Absolutely no tattooing on grounds.
11. Ample pen space is available. The pens will be assigned on a first come-first served basis, in the order in which applications are received in the fair office. Only one tack pen per farm. Take only your assigned pens.
12. ABSOLUTELY NO BUCKS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BARNS.
13. Dumping of milk into drains on the grounds is not allowed. Proper disposal containers will be available.

Youth Goat Show - Sunday, September 20 at 9:00 a.m.
Rules and Regulations
1. General rules of the Tennessee Valley Fair and Tennessee Valley Fair Dairy Goat Show rules will apply unless stated differently hereunder.
2. Open Youth Goat Show - Age Qualification - anyone that is currently enrolled in K-12 grade and has not reached 19 years of age by day of show.
3. All animals entered into the Youth Goat Show must be Registered in the name of the youth exhibitor or transferred prior to August 1 or on date of birth.
4. Youth Goat Show will be a non-sanctioned show.
5. Exhibitors in the Youth Goat Show will be responsible for a $3.00 pen fee. No more than 3 goats per pen. If youth exhibitor is showing in both the Open Dairy Goat Show AND the Youth Goat Show, exhibitor will pay the Open Dairy Goat Show fee schedule. Youth Goat Show exhibitor will receive 1 free admission ticket.
6. All late entries, those made after September 4, will be required to pay a late entry fee of $6.00 per late pen ordered.

Rules and Regulations
1. General rules of the Tennessee Valley Fair and Tennessee Valley Fair Dairy Goat Show rules will apply unless stated differently hereunder.
2. There is an entry fee of $5 per goat.
3. The show is open to youth in 4th - 12th grade within the Eastern Region of Tennessee.
4. Grade refers to exhibitor's grade as of January 1 of the current year.
5. The show will be Sunday, September 20, 2026.
6. All animals entered in the Tennessee Junior Meat Goat Show will be in the same respective divisions.
7. No animals will be allowed to dual enter (i.e. enter in registered breeding does and novelty does).
8. All goats must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Papers) dated within 90 days of the show. All animals are subject to inspection upon arrival at the show facilities and any animal with clinical signs of contagious disease will be sent home immediately.
9. Appropriate Scrapie identification and/or tattoo will be required for all animals.
10. All livestock must comply with the Tennessee State Livestock Health requirements for Fairs and Exhibits.
11. No portion of this show is sanctioned with any breed registry or association.
12. No bucks will be allowed on the premises.
13. This show will adhere to the same rules put in place by the University of Tennessee for Tennessee Junior Meat Goat Show.

Costume Contest
1. Costume contest is open to all youth under 6 years of age on January 1, 2026.
2. Contestant must have a partner (older sibling, friend,parent, etc) to help control the goat. Partner should be dressed to coordinate with the contestant, but only contestant will be judged.
3. Entrants must lead a goat which has been conditioned, fitted and trained to show on collar. Goat does not have to be owned by the entrant. Goat and Handler MUST wear a costume.
4. Goat must be treated humanely.
5. All costumes must be attached to the animal in a safe, non-binding way and non-harmful to the goat. Entries will be judged on creativity and style.
6. Participation only - premiums will not be paid.

Premier Exhibitor Recognition Program
The purpose of the Premier Exhibitor Award Program is to provide 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned and gained by participating in the Junior Livestock project. This recognition program will increase the emphasis on the knowledge and skills attained by the youth and will complement the wholesome competition, social development and fun learned traditionally associated with junior livestock shows.
A Premier Exhibitor for Registered Animal, Commercial Animal and Novelty Animals will be selected at the Eastern Region Junior Goat Show in each of the following divisions:
Explorer - 4th grade
Junior Level I - 5th and 6th grade
Junior Level II - 7th and 8th grade
Senior Level I - 9th and 10th grade
Senior Level II - 11th and 12th grade
To be eligible for the Premier Exhibitor competition, youth must exhibit an animal in the respective show, participate in the respective showmanship and in the skillathon contest. The Premier Exhibitor will be the individual who earns the most points by participating in these three educational events. A previous Premier Exhibitor winner in a particular division is not eligible to compete in the same division of the same show in future years (ie, cannot win Senior Level I Commercial Doe Premier Exhibitor more than once). Additionally, youth may not win multiple Premier Exhibitor awards in the same year (ie, cannot win Senior Level I Market Goat and Registered Doe Premier Exhibitor in the same year).
Skillathon: This event consists of different activities that will evaluate an exhibitor's knowledge gained from participation in the goat project for a total of 100 points. Each exhibitor will participate in the skillathon as an individual. The activities will increase in difficulty as the grade division increases. Examples of skillathon activities include, but are not limited to, feed, breed and meat identification, health and production practices and recordkeeping.
Show: All goats will be evaluated by the judge based on their merit related to breed and industry standards and assigned a Blue, Red or White. The highest possible score for goats is 100 for Blue Group, 90 for Red Group and 80 for White Group. The lowest possible score for any goat is 80.
Blue Group - Points will be given starting at 100 points and decreasing by 2 points for each placing through 10th place. Any Blue goat past 10th place will receive 80 points.
Red Group - Points will be given starting at 2 points below the last placing Blue goat in the class, but not higher than 90 points. Points will decrease by 2 points for each placing through 5th place Red goat. Any Red goat past the 5th place will received 80 points.
White Group - All goats in the White group will receive 80 points.
Showmanship: Each exhibitor will receive a score for their placing in showmanship, which will count for Premier Exhibitor:
1st - 100 points
2nd - 99 points
3rd - 98 points
4th - 97 points
5th - 96 points
6th - 95 points
7th - 94 points
8th - 93 points
9th - 92 points
10th - 91 points
All other Blues - 90 points
All Reds - 80 points
Tie Breaker: Ties in Skillathon and Premier Exhibitor will be broken as follows: Skillathon - Station 1-5 individually in order: Showmanship score, Animal score. Premier Exhibitor - Skillathon score, Showmanship score, Skillathon Station 1-5 individually in order, Animal score.
