Poultry and Rabbits

Historic Poultry Barn 2007 During the 2011 Tennessee Valley Fair, the barn housed approximately 1,600 poultry exhibits and over 400 rabbit exhibits.

The current Poultry/Rabbit Barn is approximately 9,000 square feet.

The Poultry/Rabbit Barn is one of the most visited buildings during the Tennessee Valley Fair. Through this exhibition, the general public gains an educational awareness of poultry and rabbit farming.

Poultry/Rabbit Barn Historical Information

1. The wooden roller coaster was built for the Appalachian Exposition of 1910.

2. The Poultry/Rabbit Barn was constructed from the wood salvaged from the dismantled roller coaster in the 1930’s.

3. The windows currently in the Poultry/Rabbit Barn were taken from the 1910 Exposition Building.

4. The rabbit section of the Poultry/Rabbit Barn was constructed in the 1950’s.

5. At one time, there was a pond with a fountain in the middle of the Poultry/Rabbit Barn that had fish and ducks swimming in it. The fountain drew a lot of attention and after several incidents of small children getting into the pond area it was closed. The area was covered with the existing wooden floor.

6. The Poultry Barn was constructed sometime in the early 1930’s. The design of the Poultry Barn is of the design found in many of the poultry barns located in the New England States of the US.
